ChoicePoint has been honored with the Sue Weaver “Opening Doors for CAUSE” Award for its efforts in background screening technology and service and for partnering with the Sue Weaver CAUSE in outreach and education. The award recognizes companies for exemplary efforts to promote a safer, more secure society. This is the second consecutive year for the Sue Weaver CAUSE to honor ChoicePoint with the award.
“ChoicePoint embodies the mission of the Sue Weaver CAUSE and continues to help us bring awareness and education on the importance of criminal background checks on all service employees, contractors and sub-contractors hired to work in clients’ homes,” said Lucia Bone, Sue Weaver’s sister and founder of The Sue Weaver CAUSE. “ChoicePoint has helped us open many doors and increase the public understanding of danger prevention.”
“Stories, even tragic ones, are extraordinarily powerful. Sue’s story could be anyone’s story,” said Derek Smith, ChoicePoint chairman and CEO. “ChoicePoint is honored to be affiliated with the Sue Weaver cause. We are committed to helping organizations make more informed decisions by providing background screening services for job candidates, service vendors and volunteers.”
The Sue Weaver CAUSE was founded in 2004 with the mission of promoting “Consumer Awareness of Unsafe Service Employment” (CAUSE) by requiring background checks on all workers sent to individuals’ homes. The organization was founded after Sue Weaver was attacked and killed by a department store service contractor who had previously worked in her home in Orlando, Fla. Ms. Weaver’s attacker was later found to be a twice-convicted sex offender on parole.
ChoicePoint, based in Alpharetta, Georgia, is a leading provider of background screening services to companies and non-profit organizations across the United States. A leader in social contribution and, through its ChoicePoint Cares giving programs, the company donates millions of dollars in free and discounted technology to make the world a safer place through the positive use of information. From ensuring volunteers who work with children are not convicted criminals to helping locate missing and exploited children, ChoicePoint seeks out opportunities to make a difference with its unique technical capabilities.
