Flower Mound Town Councilman Al Filidoro is seeking to retain his Place 2 Council seat in the May 10 town election. He was appointed to that seat unanimously late last year, and he says the Town Council spoke, when he was chosen by them over 7 other candidates to fill the spot of Councilman Paul Stone, who resigned due to work commitments. Now, says Filidoro, it is time for the voters to speak in the upcoming election. Flower Mound resident Steve Dixon, who had applied for the seat last fall, but was passed over in favor of Filidoro for the appointment, has announced his candidacy against the current councilman.

Filidoro, a local attorney, said he was pleased to be chosen by the Council last October, and now would like to continue to serve in that spot. “I was gratified that, at the end of the day, the entire town council determined I was the best qualified candidate to succeed Mr. Stone. Though many applicants were disappointed, many of them graciously called and congratulated me and offered their help and support,” he said. The former chairman of the Flower Mound Planning and Zoning Commission said there are several things he would like to continue working toward during a full term on the council, and perhaps the most ambitious of those goals is the creation of a central business district North of Cross Timbers, West of Morriss, and East of 2499. “This will be Flower Mound’s signature mixed use and commercial district,” said Filidoro, “complete with a River Walk, and we are actively working on it now.”

The councilman says the council has already agreed in a workshop session that this development is a number one priority for Flower Mound. “One of the most exciting things to me is that it will include a top rate hospital and medical center,” said Filidoro, adding that he has had a strong interest in bringing such a medical center to town for over 12 years. Another of his goals is to continue to provide a first rate infrastructure for Flower Mound residents, and he points out there are two major road projects underway. Filidoro said he believes that town council elections are like picking a Board of Directors for a huge entity, and that he is the most qualified person to serve as the Place 2 Councilman. “The town is doing a great job right now, and I am part of that. I clearly have the qualifications and the experience to be on the board of directors for a major entity, and I have a passion for public service. I am not an unknown quantity in this town,” he stated.

In addition to being an attorney, Filidoro has an MBA, and is an associate professor of MBA Programs at the University of Phoenix in Dallas and Los Colinas. His business experience includes Director of Finance of the Ohio Lottery Commission, Assistant County Auditor in Ohio, and experience directing teams auditing Cities, Towns, Counties, Libraries and Universities. He has been a Flower Mound resident since 1990, and Filidoro’s community service includes serving on the FM Planning and Zoning Commission, both as a member and as chairman, and he is a past member of the Flower Mound Chamber of Commerce and the FM Rotary Club. Filidoro is a widower of one year and has three adult children who live out of state. The last day to file for candidacy in the election is March 10, and March 17 is the deadline for write in candidates to file. Early voting will begin April 28, and Election Day is set for May 10.
