     Parking was at a premium at Highland Village City Hall on Saturday afternoon, and it was standing room only inside for a public forum with 26th Congressional District U.S. Congressman Michael Burgess, M.D.

      Last week, during the early evening hours, federal law enforcement agents, assisted by local authorities, took part in an arrest procedure known as, Operation Community Shield. The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) and officers from the Lewisville Police Department coordinated a raid on the Blue Goose restaurant in Highland Village.

Flower Mound Rotarians are helping AIDS orphans such as this little girl in Africa.

     Most children in Flower Mound and the surrounding area are about as far from being an AIDS orphan as they can get, but that fact doesn’t stop local Rotarians from getting involved to help those suffering children a world away. Buying a mosquito net for $4 isn’t a top priority or challenge here, but in Africa, that is an unmet need for many orphaned children.

     Last week, at the Flower Mound Board of Parks, Arts and Library Services (PALS), the Keep Flower Mound Beautiful (KFMB) organization sought approval for the final plan of the Spring Lake Park Project in memory of Marianne Kilpatrick. To no one’s surprise, the Board was overwhelmingly supportive of the project, voting unanimously to approve the plan as presented.

     Texas is a land full of abundant natural surprises that vary in shape and size. From our rolling hills to the delicate petals of the bluebonnet, our state has many distinctive traits and symbols that make us proud to be Texans. With a state so vast and with so much to offer, it should come as no surprise that we have selected not just one, but three different state mammals.
