Guyer’s Taylor Bible had a 41-yard fumble return that helped set up a score in Team Nitro’s 32-7 win over Team Blur in last weekend’s Under Armour All-America game.

Bible – a defensive tackle who has already committed to Texas – was one of several standouts in a game featuring the best college recruits in the nation. Bible was Guyer’s first-ever selection to the game, and head coach John Walsh was invited as one of the assistant coaches.

“It was a lot of fun and he (Taylor) held his own against some really good offensive linemen,” Walsh said. “We both felt honored to be there, and Taylor is deserving of everything he gets.”

Bible (6-3, 300 pounds) posted 118 tackles – including 24 for a loss – with six sacks, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and 23 quarterback pressures in leading the Wildcats to a 13-2 record and a second-consecutive trip to the Class 4A Division I state semifinals.

In committing to Texas, he snubbed other top-rated interested programs such as Arizona, Baylor, Kentucky, Nebraska, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech. He was one of at least 5-6 Texas recruits at last weekend’s game, including Darius White. White scored two touchdowns and gave his nonbinding oral commitment to Texas immediately following the game.

“They were putting some of the best in the country together and it was fun to see them all gel so well,” Walsh said. “Taylor really got along with everyone there. It was great to see.”

The accolades keep pouring in for Bible. He was one of three Wildcats recently named to the Dallas Morning News’ All-Area team -- though he was the only first-team selection and the only defensive player representing Guyer.

Teammate Jaimaine Wilhite was a second-team rep after rushing for 1,812 yards as a senior with 24 touchdowns. He also showed his versatility with 147 receiving yards on just 19 receptions. Offensive linemen Cole Underwood – a Stanford commit – was also named to the second team. Both helped Guyer average 501.1 yards per game offensively in 2009.

“I think we were well represented,” Walsh said. “Taylor is the only kid I’ve been around in my 16 years of coaching where almost every team had to change their game plan to account for him.”

Bible was also named District 5-4A’s Defensive Player of the Year and was one of 11 first team selections for Guyer. The Wildcats also had six second team selections. Guyer’s first team selections included quarterback J.W. Walsh, Wilhite, Luke Russell, Underwood, Drew Johnson, Tyler Joliff, Robert Satterfield, Blake Terry, Josh Stewart and Ravion Ingram.

Overall,     Guyer, Lake Dallas and Denton Ryan – all of which shared the district title – dominated the all-district team.

Lake Dallas quarterback James Franklin was named MVP while Ryan’s Scotty Young was named the Offensive Player of the Year. All three teams spent significant time in the Associated Press 4A state poll. Guyer spent the entire season on it.

“The teams that win the district title typically dominate the list and we had a lot of players who were deserving,” Walsh said. “We have no regrets from this past season.”
