Jody Smith’s service as Mayor to Flower Mound has been outstanding for the several reasons. Because of her leadership, we have not seen any increase in the town’s tax rate. We have seen a marked increase in our retail and commercial establishments thus adding to our sales tax coffers. We have seen the completion of our Community Activity Center. Fire Station # 4 is now open and fire station #5 under construction. Our crime rate has been reduced for the 3rd consecutive year. Jody has been very effective in representing our town in Austin and Washington. In addition, there are some facts you may not know about her.  She is CFO and co-owner with her husband of Cornerstone Staffing, a highly successful Metroplex temporary staffing business, thus she does not need financial payoffs. All the trips for the town that Jody has taken have been at her own expense. She is a semi-retired bilingual international senior flight attendant for American Airlines, thus she has honed excellent people skills. Who else could sit with dignity and not respond to the vicious attacks waged at her a few weeks ago.

     The statue of the little girl at the library is of her late daughter, Christine. The statue is there because the children’s room at the Library is named for Christy. Many times since that incident in 1991, she has quietly ministered to Flower Mound families who have lost children in accidents. Attacks at Jody about her not caring about children’s safety are repugnant. The anger toward her over the gas drilling has been generated by a huge amount of misleading and false information. Yes there were 600 people at town hall recently. So what! Those people represented less than one percent of the entire population of Flower Mound. As Mayor, Jody cannot vote, except for ties. But has led and is leading the town to get answers to open questions. I will continue to support her decisions and will be proud to call her our Mayor when our town turns 50 years old in 2011.
