For years, I've been following the sports pages of The News Connection, following high school sports, particularly Flower Mound High Girls School Soccer. It's extremely frustrating to see that issue after issue, Mr. Steve Gamel chooses to focus only on the Marcus girls’ soccer team. Why? Is this newspaper dedicated only to Marcus? Is FMHS soccer not newsworthy? The Jan 22 article focused on "Marauders girls: stars without a home.” Is Mr. Gamel aware that the Jaguar girls are 5-1-1 and have a wonderful new coach who is likely to take these girls to playoffs? And, is Mr. Gamel aware that FMHS has many girls committed to play college soccer? Is Mr. Gamel aware that these same FMHS girls have been committed to play college soccer for a few years now?
Finally, is Mr. Gamel aware that FMHS has a senior who will be playing college soccer for an Ivy League school and another for a highly respected military academy? Does Mr. Gamel know anything about FMHS's new varsity coach and what an impressive coaching resume she has. I'm sure you get my drift. I'm upset! The FMHS girls’ soccer team has not won state title, but they are a highly competitive team with much talent and heart. Maybe Mr. Gamel should given the FMHS girls soccer team the half page article that they deserve. And maybe somebody should educate Mr. Gamel on the fact that Flower Mound has two high schools, not just one. ?
