Looking at the Big Picture in a society where most of us ask, why or how, what do we do next? How do we dig out of this mess? I bring you hope and a challenge. We live in a country where innocent people are placed in jail for 27 years, then released when someone finally runs a DNA test. Where people are without a doubt guilty of crimes, and they are set free because of jurors that cannot find the strength in their soul to make the right choice, as they internalize their reasonable doubt. They allow themselves to take on guilt for sending someone to prison because they live from a position of fear, rather than love.
In this same country, drugs are illegal, as they should be, but alcohol (the most lethal drug known to man) is legal and is marketed to our youth. Six Flags wants to sell alcohol. Six Flags is a place most of us view as great family entertainment and a place that we could feel "somewhat" safe to allow our teenagers to go with their friends. This summer, Six Flags will become just another bar where Adults and Corporate America teach our children that it is okay to drink alcohol, go on rides and then drive home after drinking.
I do not even know if I want to venture into the topic of our country’s political arena. I will state that our political platform is broken and you need to take a strong look at it from the inside to fully understand why our politicians cannot, or do not, pass the correct legislation that protects our citizens and creates a harmonious future for our children. So I ask you, where do we go from here? Our days are filled with too much work, family time and issues, and our over-extended lifestyles. We can't possibly take on more, right? Let someone else figure it out! Let our government fix it, which is what they are paid to do. Right?
I am here to tell you that our government cannot fix it and no one else is going to. So what can be done? If we all turn our back on the problems, then we welcome our grandchildren into a life of continued reduction of values and morals. Look at how our society has trended over the past twenty years and ask yourself what life will look like in twenty more years. Does this scare you? Will sex and drugs be the normal in elementary school in twenty years, as it is in middle school now? Where do we go from here? We go to the Mirror and ask that person if they are doing everything they should to improve their little piece of society! It is us, you and I, who will have to fix the problems. We fix them by first being involved in our children's lives and practice unconditional love. Then we get involved in our communities dysfunctional issues. We work with our Senators, Representatives, and Congressmen to pass common sense bills. We go to our schools and meet with the principals to help them to improve the schools. We boycott Six Flags for even trying to sell alcohol.
Look down the road twenty years and decide if your grandchildren are worth spending your personal time today, to correct the issues that are wrong or do not work. No one else is going to do it; only you and I. The challenge is your commitment to being involved, and the hope is you and I.
