Volunteers from BridgeWay Church, and other community members, work together to repair a home in Lewisville.

Volunteers from both the church and the community joined together in two different projects. The first project focused on painting, landscaping, and doing small repair at a cluster of homes at 441 North Cowan in Lewisville. These homes were built by Christian Community Action. BridgeWay members partnered with volunteers from the community to renew 18 homes. Volunteers provided much-needed renovation to these homes and washed the cars of the residents. In the second project, workers filled and decorated several hundred shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child. Boxes were filled with toys, school supplies and personal hygiene items and then sent to needy children in disadvantaged parts of the world. These work projects, both of them intergenerational, were carried out over what BridgeWay Church called its “Faith in Action” weekend. The goal of Faith In Action is to encourage a spirit of service 24/7 by members of the church.

The service projects were manned from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. BridgeWay’s normal Sunday morning worship time was pushed back to 5 p.m. to allow volunteers the time needed to perform service to the community. “We’re excited about how our members and local residents rallied to support this special day of service to our community.  Some of the people in our work parties were neighbors that don’t even attend our church, but saw the value of what we were doing and wanted to help. It was really gratifying,” said BridgeWay’s Senior Minister, Art McNeese. For more information about BridgeWay Church, contact 972-317-9500 or www.bwchurch.org
